The inspection of various materials and the welds performed on them is highly necessary to determine the quality of the weld. Once the quality of the weld has been determined through one of many techniques, such as metal particle inspection, a decision will be made on whether it can be used. Read more about metal particle inspection below:

How does it work?

The method of metal particle inspection works by causing a magnetic field in the component that is being tested. If there are any flaws on the surface of the material, or just below the surface, it will disrupt this magnetic field. The location of this flaw can then be determined with the use of iron filings. These filings are dusted on the surface of the material and will be attracted to the area of the disruption.

The advantages

A big advantage of the metal particle inspection is that it is an incredibly quick way to detect flaws. This detection method is also easy to use, allowing inspectors to quickly determine the condition of magnetic materials, such as iron and steel, without the hassle of having to wait a long time for the results. Another advantage of the metal particle inspection is that is detected surface flaws, such as cracks, seams and inclusions, which are some of the most problematic flaws. Many businesses opt for this technique as it gives them the freedom to perform the test on-site or in a workshop, and it is relatively inexpensive compared to other techniques.
